New Dining Table/Desk: Wabi Table Sketches

Wabi means things that are fresh and simple. It denotes simplicity and quietude, and also incorporates rustic beauty. It includes both that which is made by nature, and that which is made by man. It also can mean an accidental or happenstance element (or perhaps even a small flaw) which gives elegance and uniqueness to the whole, such as the pattern made by a flowing glaze on a ceramic object. I have loved this concept for years now and often think about how Wabi is intrinsically in the act of making things by hand from nature, and letting these creations tell a story over time as we would with our lives.

I am so proud to present the Wabi Table. This new design can function either as a dining table, or a desk. Simple yet sophisticated, fresh yet timeless. An effortless appearance, albeit with much thought and consideration in the details. The simpleness, sleek lines, and thoughtful attention to details was inspired by Japanese design which I find to consistently embody these distinctive traits. The base is composed of tubular steel, which has been powder coated. Using various spokeshaves and hand tools, the hardwood top is meticulously shaped by hand which gives it the distinctive appearance that has become a signature in our tables. The soft edge is as agreeable to the eye as it is to the hand. Our leather signature patch is embedded into the corner of the top, and the bottom is signed and dated. Each table top is sanded to a buttery smoothness and then finished with a hand rubbed polymerized oil and an all natural wax to add an extra layer of protection. Our signature finish is completely food safe, with no metal dryers or toxins, and will age beautifully over time like your favorite denim or quality leather bag. Every Woolsey table comes with a signed certificate of authenticity and a supply of our all-natural wood wax, enough for at least a year of use.

Here are some sketches of the Wabi Table. It is will be available for pre-sale next week!
